The Arthropod Fauna of Oak (Quercus spp., Fagaceae) Canopies in Norway

چکیده

(1) We document the invertebrate fauna collected from 24 oak canopies in east and west Norway as a contribution to Norwegian Biodiversity Information Centre’s ‘The Taxonomy Initiative’. (2) A snap-shot inventory of was recorded by means emitting mist natural pyrethrum into at night using petrol-driven fogger collecting specimens butterfly nets spread on ground under canopy. (3) Almost entire catch more than 6800 identified 722 species. Out 92 species new fauna, 21 were science and, additionally, 15 Nordic fauna. Diptera alone constituted nearly half represented, with 61 records (18 species). Additionally, Hymenoptera (one species), six oribatid mites (two species) one Thysanoptera (4) Our study emphasizes importance tree habitat both for specific occasional visitors, it demonstrates that canopy fogging technique is an efficient way find ‘hidden fauna’ forests. The low number red listed found reflects how poor insect still studied. Moreover, implication IUCN list criteria newly described or observed discussed.

Microsatellite primer development for post oak, Quercus stellata (Fagaceae)1

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY The American Cross Timbers forest ecosystem runs from southeastern Kansas to Central Texas and is primarily composed of post oak (Quercus stellata). This old-growth forest currently occupies only about 2% of its ancestral range. To facilitate genetic research on this species, we developed microsatellite primers specific to post oak from reduced genomic librari...

Mating patterns of black oak Quercus velutina (Fagaceae) in a Missouri oak-hickory forest.

Wind-pollinated forest trees usually have high outcrossing rates, but allogamy does not necessarily translate into high pollen movement. The goal of this study was to determine the outcrossing rates, pollen pool genetic structure, and the size of the effective pollination neighborhood in a population of black oak, Quercus velutina, in a Missouri oak-hickory forest. Based on 6 allozyme loci, 12 ...

Mating patterns of a subdivided population of the andean oak (Quercus humboldtii Bonpl., Fagaceae).

Mating patterns play a critical role in the maintenance of genetic variation. We analyzed the mating system in a recently fragmented population of the Andean oak (Quercus humboldtii) using four microsatellite loci. Five fragments in northeastern Colombia, South America, were selected consisting of 30.4 trees on average. We sampled about 30 seeds from three target trees in each fragment and geno...

Clonal population structure and genetic variation in sand-shinnery oak,Quercus havardii (Fagaceae).

We investigated clonal population structure and genetic variation in Quercus havardii (sand-shinnery oak), a deciduous rhizomatous shrub that dominates vegetation by forming uninterrupted expanses of ground cover over sandy deposits on the plains of western Texas, western Oklahoma, and eastern New Mexico. Isozyme electrophoresis (15 loci coding 11 enzymes) was used to recognize and map clones a...

Dendrochronological parameters of northern red oak (Quercus rubra L. (Fagaceae)) infested with red oak borer (Enaphalodes rufulus (Haldeman) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae))

Oak-dominated forests in northwestern Arkansas have recently experienced an oak mortality event associated with an unprecedented outbreak of a native insect, the red oak borer, Enaphalodes rufulus (Haldeman). To determine whether prior drought was associated with increased E. rufulus infestation level of Quercus rubra L. trees, we employed a suite of dendrochronological measurements from Q. rub...
